Crawl Space Solution

Crawl Space Solutions

The problem with a crawl space, beside the mold, is that as warm air rises in your home, it brings up with it the air that was previously in your crawl space, including moisture and mold spores, as well as anything else that may be airborne down there.

As this air rises in your home, replacement air enters from the lowest part, your crawlspace. This replacement air is made up with unconditioned outside air that enters through vents and other leaks, and air that is actually sucked from the crawlspace floor, either dirt or concrete, which is typically filled with lots of moisture. This natural upward air movement is called the "stack effect" -- this is how chimneys work. Consequently, whatever is in the air at the lowest point eventually flows up into the living sections. Up to 40% of the air we breathe on the first floor of our home comes from the crawl space.

A concrete or dirt crawl space with a crawl space vent is a never-ending source of moisture. Even if the dirt's surface seems dry, digging down a few inches reveals moist earth

Crawl Space Moisture

Why Is Crawl Space Moisture so Bad?
Because it's the moisture that leads to mold growth, musty odors, and structural damage, not to mention that insects and critters love moist environments and energy costs are higher. Moisture ruins houses by providing a hospitable environment for mold, fungi, and insects that destroy wood framing and cause dry rot. Crawl space moisture, and the mold and mildew that thrive in this environment, affect not only the floor system directly above, but also the entire house.

Three things destroy organic materials in general, and wood in particular: water, heat, and ultra-violet radiation. Of these, water is by far the most damaging... and the one we can control.
Properly sealing the crawlspace and removing the moisture from the ground and air is part of the solution that helps provide a mold-free, radon-free, and insect-free environment, which leads to a more more energy-efficient and healthier home.

To avoid moisture's negative affects, a crawlspace should be completely sealed and isolated from the ground and the humid outside air. An effective method to lower crawl space humidity, tested and perfected throughout the U.S., Canada, the U.K., and Ireland, is now available in your area -- the CleanSpace Crawlspace Encapsulation System by Basement Systems Inc. This crawlspace vapor barrier system involves installing a 20-mil 7-ply sandwich of high and low-density polyethylene with polyester-cord reinforcement on the dirt or concrete floor, that is fastened and epoxied to the walls. This extra-heavy reinforced lining is made especially for this system and is treated with an antimicrobial finish that protects against mold and mildew growth under the crawlspace liner.

Lower energy bills, resulting from reduced crawlspace humidity, translate into comfort and savings year after year. The CleanSpace crawlspace vapor barrier is tough enough for service people to crawl on and safe enough for storage. Being bright white, the CleanSpace liner really brightens a crawlspace too, making it a relatively pleasant storage place.

Does Your Crawl Space Leak or Flood?
Many crawlspace foundations leak and many crawlspaces flood. Such crawlspaces may require a drainage system. Basement Systems has several patented sump pump systems for your peace of mind. They all feature a built-in WaterWatch sump pump alarm system to let you know if there is ever a pump or power problem before the crawlspace floods. Basement Systems' SmartSump

Just remember that your crawlspace, although often neglected until it's too late, is one of the most important spaces in your home. It can be a spawning ground for mold, bugs, embarrassing odors, and even radon gas. The moisture generated in the crawlspace will lead to structural damage and higher energy costs! On the other hand, a clean, sealed crawlspace can be an extra source for much needed storage while making your home more energy efficient, healthy, and safe for your family.

To learn more about the CleanSpace Crawl space Encapsulation System or other innovative crawlspace solutions, contact your local CleanSpace crawl space Installer for a FREE Estimate and Inspection You'll be thrilled at how quickly your crawlspace can be fixed with little or no disruption to your daily routine. The encapsulation system comes with a 25-year CleanSpace crawl space warranty against rips, tears & groundwater, and from having groundwater on top of the liner.

Remember we are in Indiana, Kansas, and Missouri.

Some installations will also require a quiet operating sump pump.  We have several to chose from.
We are happy to install the hands down best sump pump offered in the World. The patented TripleSafe Sump Pump System has three pumps to respond to the most prevalent three problems that home owners experience with waterproofing systems that fail. Now a homeowner can finally feel safe with the complete protection of the TripleSafe system.

The three scenarios most likely to occur to any sump pump system are:

Scenario 1: If the 1st pump fails, the 2nd one takes over.

Scenario 2: If your 1st pump can't keep up with the amount of water entering the system, then it and a more powerful 2nd pump run at the same time - more than doubling capacity.

Scenario 3: If your power goes out, the patented UltraSump battery backup sump pump takes over - and it's all automatic!

The battery backup sump pump included with the TripleSafe is also available as an add-on for the SuperSump. The battery sump pump uses a specially designed UltraSump battery (not an automobile or marine battery) and pump to backup the primary pump in case of power failure or other pump failure. The TripleSafe offers the least amount of sump pump problems you will ever experience.

Super Sump, Sump Pump

super sump pumpThe SuperSump includes the finest pump available - a high-end 1/3 HP cast-iron Zoeller sump pump with a mechanical float switch. This pump was chosen as the best from among nearly 50 models. It pumps 2220 gallons per hour at a 8-foot discharge head (43gpm) smoothly and quietly. It resists clogging and can pump up to ½-inch solids. It will perform reliably for many years.

The patented airtight sump pump cover keeps out sump pump odor due to moisture in the sump pump basin, as well as bugs and radon gas, quiets sump pump noise, and protects small children from playing with and falling into the sump. The SuperSump is designed to house a secondary battery backup sump pump within the same liner in case of power outage or pump failure for whatever reason.

We offer three different sump pumps because no two jobs are the same.  The super sump is good for crawl spaces when your on a limited budget.

The triple safe is available when you must have a dry area!  As its name states there are three stages backed by a monster motor to make sure your possessions stay dry!

Ultra Sump, Sump Pump

The UltraSump Battery Backup Sump Pump System is the right solution to protect your home from pump failure.

The third pump in the TripleSafe, or an add-on to the SuperSump, is the UltraSump DC-operated battery backup sump pump - which protects your basement from flooding if your power or circuit breakers fail, or the primary pump fails to turn on for any reason.

Unlike a car or marine battery, the battery supplied as part of the UltraSump backup sump pump system is specially engineered to withstand long periods of remaining unused. So if you're considering an alternate system, be sure that the battery connected to your sump pump system is not simply a car or marine battery. The UltraSump also comes standard with a charging system to automatically recharge your battery once power has been reconnected to the system.

You can rest easy knowing the UltraSump is on the job, especially when you are away from home. Its outstanding gallon-per-minute output, automatic electronic "smart" charger, heavy-duty motor, and reliable switch are a winning combination.

Each Basement Systems' sump pump basin (the patented SuperLiner) and its matching sump pump cover form airtight bonds and are much easier on the eyes. These airtight lids also help to quiet sump pump noise.

(Pictured left) The air-tight sump pump cover of an installed SuperSump with an UltraSump battery backup sump pump also features an airtight floor drain (to drain water out of your basement in the event of an interior plumbing or other leak), a WaterWatch sump pump alarm (that sounds off in the event of pump failure for any reason, including a power outage), a "smart" charger (to keep the battery charged when AC power is available -- a Christmas-tree display shows battery status and an alarm alerts the homeowner to power failure), and a clean, finished look that allows nothing to fall in and is strong enough to stand on.
